Uzbekistan, China eye bilateral ties
Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, who is on a working visit to China, and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as some problems of international and regional policy, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry reported on January 29.
The ministers also discussed the countries’ cooperation within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the preparations for the upcoming SCO summit in Tashkent and other activities during the Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in this organization.
, Kamilov met with the Secretary General of the SCO Rashid Alimov in Beijing recently, with whom he discussed issues on preparation for the regular meeting of the Council of Heads of the SCO member-states planned for June.
The SCO)was established in 2001. It is a permanent intergovernmental international organization. The SCO includes Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
It was decided to start the admission procedure of India and Pakistan to the SCO during a meeting of SCO member-states in June 2015.
Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkey, Sri Lanka are the SCO dialogue partners. Afghanistan, Iran, Mongolia, Belarus are the SCO observer-countries.
The SCO chairmanship passed from Russia to Uzbekistan in July 2015. Tashkent summit’s conducting is scheduled for June 23-24, 2016.
