Turkmenistan, Japan eye joint energy projects

The development of economic partnership, implementation of joint projects in the gas sector were discussed during Turkmen-Japanese talks in Ashgabat, the ministry of oil, gas industry and mineral resources of Turkmenistan reported on September 1.

The talks were held among Turkmengas State Concern and representatives of Japanese corporations such as Mitsubishi, Chiyoda, Sojits, Itochu and JGC.

The matter rested in the upcoming work as part of the third phase of developing Galkynysh super-giant field.

The issues discussed were related to the primary natural gas purification, and construction of a gas-purification plant, as well as the feasibility study of the project.

The upcoming work is directly related to the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) main pipeline.

Galkynysh gas field is the main source of raw materials to provide the existing and planned gas pipelines, including TAPI, with tank gas.

The ministry also said that the cooperation with partners from Japan is an important component for the country in the context of Turkmenistan’s development with the Asian region as a whole.
