Birth, marriage, divorce rates jump in Iran

Statistics show that in the first five months of the current Iranian fiscal year (since March 21), 657,000 births were registered in the country, showing a rise of 4.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

The divorce rate also jumped by 11.5 percent as 69,182 cases were registered, the latest report by the Iranian National Organization for Civil Registration said September 1.

Of the babies born- 337,865 were boys and 319,137 were girls.

Hormozgan province recorded the highest birth rate while Luristan came with the lowest.

The provinces of Hormuzgan, Qom, and Yazd registered 11.4, 9.2, and 9.1 percent rise in birth rates respectively to hit the highest records for the period.

Luristan and Gilan provinces registered -0.7 and -0.4 to hit the lowest records respectively.

Accordingly, an average number of 177 births per hour were registered. The number of daily births was 4,239.

Also, 41 people died per hour, registering 154,084 deaths for the five-month period and a 0.5-percent decrease compared to the same period of the preceding year.

Some 297,624 marriages were registered, showing 3.3 percent rise compared to the same period last year.
