Uzbekistan spends investments $7 bln in Jan-June 2015

Uzbekistan has spent investments equivalent to $7.3 billion in January-June 2015. This figure is 9.8 percent more compared to the same period of 2014, the country's Economy Ministry and the State Statistics Committee said.

Over $1.5 billion, or 21.3 percent, of the total volume of investments was accounted for by foreign investments and loans, including $1.2 billion in foreign direct investment.

The share of assets in the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan, aimed at the implementation of major investment projects in strategic sectors of the economy, increased in total investment by 5.6 percent to $225 million.

Since the beginning of 2015, the implementation of 63 projects with a total value of $160.9 million was completed within the framework of the investment program for 2015. Five projects worth $16.1 million were implemented in special industrial zones in early 2015.

In total, some 1,866 production sites were commissioned in the country during the first half of 2015, which created more than 24,800 new jobs.

In January, the Economy Ministry said that Uzbekistan will allocate $2.292 billion for the completion of 130 major projects in 2015. The government plans to complete the construction of 45 new factories with a total project cost of $4.902 billion.

In particular, Uzbekneftegaz National Holding Company and a consortium of South Korean companies led by KOGAS plans to complete the construction of the $4.1 billion Ustyurt gas and chemical complex, while Uzbekenergo State Joint Stock Company seeks to complete the construction of a $512 million steam-gas plant with a capacity of 370 MW at the Tashkent thermal power plant.

Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Complex will complete 5 projects to modernize production worth $157.8 million by the end of 2015. Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex will spend $117.7 million to modernize a copper plant. Uzkhimprom will implement the extension of a soda factory in Kungrad worth $110 million.
