Azerbaijani tourists in Turkey not in danger: Tourism Association

Turkey can be appropriately called the favorite destination of Azerbaijani tourists abroad. And the situation in the neighboring brotherhood country cannot change that attitude in the midst of the summer season.

The complicated situation in Turkey and operations carried out by the country's army on its borders do not threaten the safety of tourists from Azerbaijan, Advisor to the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Tourism Association Muzaffar Agakerimov said.

The situation will not lead to a decrease in tourist flow from Azerbaijan, he said, and will not affect the cooperation between the two countries in the tourism sector.

The adviser said that Azerbaijani tourists often visit resorts in such Turkish cities as Bodrum, Kusadasi, Antalya, Istanbul, and others, and the situation at these tourist centers today is stable.

Azerbaijanis prefer Turkey to other tourism destinations not only because of the feelings of camaraderie and the similarity of their languages, but also because of the favorable prices and high quality of resorts.

The Turkish Air Force embarked on a major military air operation in northern Iraq on July 25.

Law enforcement authorities in Turkey have detained more than 1,300 suspects across the country from the beginning of the antiterrorist operation, the Anadolu agency reports citing official sources.

In the second quarter of 2015, Turkey's revenues from tourism fell sharply compared to the same period last year, the Turkish Statistics Institute said on July 31.

In this period, Turkey's tourism revenues decreased by 13.8 percent to $7,733 billion.

The report notes that of the total income received by Turkey from tourism in the second quarter, $5.95 billion were from foreign tourists, while $1.77 billion dollars came from Turkish citizens living abroad.

In 2014, Turkey's tourism revenues stood at $34.305 billion, which is 6.2 percent more than in 2013.
