In January-May of 2015, electricity consumption in Kazakhstan increased by 0.6 percent compared with the same period last year (from 38.83 billion kilowatt/hours to 39.06 billion kilowatt/hours), the analytical service Ranking.kz repoerted.

“It became the result of an increase in electricity consumption in the main consuming regions - Pavlodar (1.7 percent increase - 23.1 million kilowatt/hours) and Karaganda (6.1 percent increase - 70.7 million kilowatt/hours) regions, as well as a sharp rise in consumption in the Aktobe region (25.5 percent increase - 78 million kilowatt/hours),” said the message.

The growth in electricity consumption in the Karaganda region of Kazakhstan is predictable and is due to the good rates in the industry (according to the Statistics Committee of the Ministry of National Economy, production of copper concentrates, non-alloy steel, refined copper and copper blister increased in January-May), according to the message.

At the same time, Kazakhmys corporation, which is engaged in the production of copper, operates at two producing and manufacturing sites of the Karaganda region - Jezkazgan and Balkhash.

In May 2015, electricity consumption in Kazakhstan has exceeded its production, said the message.

Analytical service forecasts that electricity consumption in Kazakhstan will decrease in June and will remain at the minimum level until the autumn.
