Japan interested in expanding co-op with Turkmenistan

Japan is interested in developing cooperation with Turkmenistan, a rapidly developing country rich in natural resources, which is demonstrating a sustainable economic growth.

This remark was made by Daishiro Yamagiwa, the Japanese State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry at the Turkmenistan-Japan business forum held in Ashgabat, Turkmen government reported.

The Japanese delegation included representatives of major companies and corporations, specialized in the energy, transport, information and communication technologies, health and trade sectors, as well as in the field of design and construction of facilities.

These companies were ITOCHU, Marubeni, Sojits, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, JOGMEC, Chioda, Sumitomo, JGC, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, major trade associations, providing diversified services and integrated solutions in various fields - from science and education to the equipment and investment.

The Turkmen side was represented at the forum by the government members, representatives of the leading ministries and departments, as well as the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

Today, a number of Japanese companies are successfully operation in Turkmenistan and they promote development of the Central Asian country.

The agenda of the business forum included the issues of practical implementation of agreements concluded earlier, in particular the construction of a modern chemical complex in the Kiyanly village engaged in the production of polyethylene and polypropylene, as well as the construction of a plant engaged in the production of gasoline from natural gas in Ovadandepe in the Akhal province.

The main topic of discussions was the extensive partnership in the field of electric power, which culminated with a Memorandum of Understanding between the Turkmen Energy Ministry and the Japanese Sumitomo Corporation signed in the framework of this forum.

The Turkmen-Japanese cooperation is seen as an important element in development of relations between Turkmenistan and the Asia-Pacific region as a whole. To this end, the two countries are seeking to use their geopolitical and geo-economic advantages.

Turkmenistan is considering the opportunities available for Japanese companies in joint investment projects in petrochemical, gas processing, electro-technical, and other industrial sectors.

Japan's high technologies and Turkmenistan's rich natural resources are complementary, business circles in Tokyo believe.
