Uzbekistan to increase export of light industry goods

Uzbekistan plans to increase the export of light industry products up to $2.8 billion by 2019.

This remark was made by Dilbar Mukhamedova, head of the Technical Policy and Prognoses Department of UzbekYengilSanoat Joint Stock Company on May 27.

"According to last year's results, Uzbekistan exported finished fabrics, knitted dyed fabrics, dyed yarns, sewing-knitted products worth $1 billion. As of today, the geography of exports has exceeded 50 countries. Traditionally important markets are the CIS countries, and the largest volume of production is exported to Russia. This year Uzbek enterprises started exports to Latin America, Africa and the U.S.," she said.

Mukhamedova also noted that to achieve huge export index, Uzbekistan plans to implement 56 new projects worth $918 million, some 21 of which will be realized with the participation of foreign investments.

Uzbekistan, which is the sixth producer and third largest exporter of cotton fiber in the world, plans to triple the light industry output by 2020.

In particular, the production of cotton yarn is planned to be increased by 2.5 times, apparels by 3.2 times, knitted goods by 2.1 times, and raw silk production by 2 1 times.

Fabric production is planned to be increased by 5.4 times, including cotton fabrics by 2.8 times, silk fabrics by 2.7 times, non-woven fabric by 1.5 times, and knitted fabric by 2.7 times.
