Turkmenistan launches 1st communications satellite into orbit
The first communications satellite of Turkmenistan “TurkmenAlem
52°E” has been successfully launched on the orbital position of 52
degrees east longitude at an altitude of 36,000 kilometers above
the Earth, the government reported.
The last test trials of RF channels of the satellite will be held
until May 31, according to the plan. The contractor - the French
company Thales Alenia Space will hand over “TurkmenAlem 52°E” to
Turkmenistan for commissioning upon successful completion of all
tests in the first decade of June 2015.
It is expected that “Turkmen Hemrasy” JSC, established in
accordance with the Resolution of President Gurbanguly
Berdimuhammadov, will provide satellite services.
The national satellite will be used to broadcast the Turkmen
television and radio channels. The high bandwidth communication of
the satellite channels will allow “TurkmenAlem 52°E” broadcast
dozens of television channels of both standard and high-quality
definition. Given the fact that today it exceeds the needs of
national television of Turkmenistan, it is planned to lease a part
of the satellite channels to foreign broadcasters, the message
said.
The orbital position of the satellite “TurkmenAlem” will allow
Turkmenistan to act as a transit country in the process of
broadcasting of European and Asian channels.
Features of the satellite system make it possible to use it for
transferring data between ground stations, remote from each other
over long distances, providing broadband Internet, distance
learning, telemedicine, including the various holding video
conferences, as well as for other types of communication
services.
