Germany supported the positive outcomes of the report on assessing Georgia's readiness for a visa-free travel rules with the European Union countries.

"There is no reason to expect that the European Commission experts' report on Georgia will not be positive," German Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier commented on the upcoming report that will determine whether or not Georgians will enjoy a visa-free travel to countries in the Schengen zone.

Steinmeier said at a meeting with Georgia’s Foreign Minister Tamar Beruchashvili in Berlin on May 5 that visa liberalization seemed to be a very important issue for the Georgian side at the upcoming Riga Summit.

"I should admit that the work Georgia got done in view of getting ready for the visa liberalization process was really impressive, so I don't think there is any reason to be skeptical towards the report that will be finished soon," Steinmeier noted.

Earlier, EU officials said the visa liberalization decision would be based on Georgia's recent achievements and that those achievements would need to be reflected in the report. The report is currently being prepared by European Commission experts, who traveled to Tbilisi to review the situation.

The report will reportedly be ready by May 21 when the Eastern Partnership Summit will start in Riga, Latvia.

Earlier, German Chancellor, Angela Merkel voiced her support to Georgia's efforts to integrate into the European space. She appreciated highly the successful reforms Tbilisi achieved in a short period of time. Merkel also revealed her decision to visit Georgia in the near future.

The Georgian leadership announced overtly that the country belongs to the European civilization and that it wants to be part of the old continent. Knocking on Europe’s door serves Georgia's strong desire to enter the European family.
