Belarus builds largest mining, processing plant in Turkmenistan

Belarus will build the largest mining and processing plant for the production of potash fertilizers in Turkmenistan, newspaper “Neutral Turkmenistan” said on March 27.

In this regard, Belarus and Turkmenistan discussed the implementation of the construction project of Garlyk mining and processing plant for the production of potash fertilizers in Koytendag district of Lebap region of Turkmenistan, where the richest deposit of potassium salts is situated.

Progress of the project was discussed during the meeting between of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov in Ashgabat with the Chairman of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich, said the newspaper.

The head of the National Assembly of Belarus visited the construction site of this large infrastructure object, got acquainted with the situation, according to the newspaper with reference to Myasnikovich.

“Reaffirming the commitment of the Belarusian partners to their obligations, the guest said that every effort would be made to implement all the work at a high level of quality,” the newspaper said.

Chemical industry is one of the fastest growing sectors of the Turkmen economy, which has significant resource potential.

Currently, the largest project in this area is the construction of Garlyk mining and processing plant.

Earlier it was reported that the enterprise, the cost of the first phase of which is estimated at more than $1 billion, is being constructed by the open joint stock company Belgorkhimprom. The capacity of the enterprise will be 1.4 million metric tons of fertilizers per year.
