Early voting starts in Uzbek elections

Early voting in the presidential election started in Uzbekistan on March 19, in accordance with the decision of the District Election Commissions, the country’s Central Election Commission (CEC) said.

Under the Uzbek law, the early voting starts 10 days before the election and ends a day before the election. The date of holding the early voting is set by DECs. Voters, observers and media representatives are informed about the event in advance.

Voters, who are not able to be in their place of residence on the election day, have the right to participate in the early voting.

The presidential election in Uzbekistan is scheduled for Mar.29, while the pre-election campaign in the country started on Dec.26, 2014.

The presidential candidates are: incumbent President Islam Karimov from the Liberal Democratic Party, the member of the parliamentary faction, chairman of the committee for democratic institutions, NGOs and citizens’ self-government bodies, Akmal Saidov - from the National Democratic Party Milly Tiklanish; the chairman of the Central Council of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (PDPU) Hotamzhon Ketmonov - from the PDPU, the chairman of the executive committee of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Adolat, Narimon Umarov - from SDP.
