Uzbekistan's projects  investment to hit $2.29 bln in 2015

Uzbekistan will allocate $2.292 billion for completion of 130 major projects in 2015.

A representative of Uzbekistan’s Economy Ministry told Trend Agency on January 29 that this year the government plans to complete the construction of 45 new factories with a total project cost of $4.902 billion.

In particular, Uzbekneftegaz National Holding Company and a consortium of South Korean companies led by KOGAS plan to complete the construction of the $4.1-billion worth Ustyurt gas and chemical complex, while Uzbekenergo State Joint Stock Company plans to complete the construction of a $512-million worth steam-gas plant with a capacity of 370 MW at the Tashkent thermal power plant.

Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Complex will complete 5 projects to modernize the production worth $157.8 million until the end of 2015, Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex - the modernization of the copper plant worth $117.7 million, Uzkhimprom will implement the extension of soda factory in Kungrad worth $110 million.

The projects are implemented within the framework of an investment program approved by the Uzbek government. Their funding is provided from the state budget of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development and the extra-budgetary funds, own funds of enterprises and foreign investments.

Earlier Uzbek media Program of Action of the Cabinet of Ministers said the government will direct about $10 billion for projects on development of roads and railways, logistics centers and communications over the next five years.

In total, the implementation of over 150 projects is carried out within the program of development and modernization of production infrastructure in Uzbekistan for 2015-2019.

Currently, the total length of roads in Uzbekistan is 146,400 kilometres. Some 42,500 kilometres of them are main public roads, including 3,200 kilometres - international highway and 18,800 kilometres – highway of national importance. Some 20 international transport routes and directions pass through the Uzbek territory.

The total length of railways of Uzbekistan is more than 4,200 kilometres, about 1,000 kilometres of which were electrified.

In total, the government plans to electrify about 2,000 kilometres of railways in the country.
