Tehran, Moscow seek to agree on visa abolition

Iran and Russia are working on the possibility of establishing a visa-free regime, as well as for the tourists, Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Sanai said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“Signing of a memorandum of understanding in 2015 must be the first action,” he said.

"Our businessmen face problems with getting Russian visas, especially long-term,” the ambassador said. “However, we are pleased that the foreign ministers of Russia and Iran Sergey Lavrov and Mohammad Javad Zarif agreed to simplify the visa regime, especially for businessmen and tourists in 2014. At the moment, the foreign ministries of Russia and Iran are operating. They prepared a memorandum of understanding. I am confident that it will be signed in 2015."

He stressed that in this case the matter rests in businessmen, tourists and some other citizens.

"It will be much easier,” the ambassador said. “Of course, this will not be a visa-free regime, but it will be the first action to this.”
