WB changes GDP growth forecast for Uzbekistan

The World Bank has changed its forecast for Uzbekistan’s GDP growth.

In its report titled Global Economic Prospects, the World Bank lowered the GDP growth forecast of Uzbekistan for 2015 to 7.4 percent against 7.9 percent projected in October 2014.

The report noted Uzbekistan's GDP growth in 2016 will amount to 8.2 percent.

In 2014, Uzbekistan's GDP grew by 7.9 percent. The current account balance was 1.7 percent of GDP in 2014.

In 2015, the current account balance will be 1.5 percent, in 2016 - 1.7 percent, in 2017 - 1.3 percent, the report said.

The Uzbek government forecasted the economic growth at 8.1 percent in 2014.

Uzbekistan joined the World Bank in 1992. The bank has provided Uzbekistan with loans totaling about $2 billion to implement the projects in the area of privatization, financial sector development, modernization of agriculture, energy, improvement of social infrastructure, health and education since 1995.
