Uzbekistan sets up earthquake simulation complex

Uzbekistan has established a complex of simulation of earthquakes operating under the Institute of Civil Protection of Ministry of Emergency Situations, the ministry said on January 14.

The simulation complex consists of a simulator that imitates the earthquake processes, a showroom that includes an exposure of the buildings destroyed by the quake, a conference room and audiences.

The Tashkent complex will allow the relative organizations to conduct exercises in the artificial earthquake conditions, which will increase the readiness of specialists to cope with the disasters. Readiness is a key factor of success in saving the lives of people and taking rapid steps.

The complex will also allow preparing the population and rescuers to take correct actions in emergency situations in earthquakes, ensuring a higher level of readiness of vulnerable group of population to natural disasters, as well as reducingthe level of destruction and mitigating the results.

Uzbekistan is located in a seismically active Central Asian region, with a high risk of earthquake.

The complex was established jointly with the Ministry of Emergency Situations and UNDP, the Academy of Sciences and the Culture and Sport Ministry with financial support provided by the European Commission Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection.
