Ashgabat, Tokyo hold political consultations

The political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Japan were held in Ashgabat.

A Japanese delegation was led by Akira Muto, Special Representative for Central Asia and the Caucasus, Deputy Director General of the European Affairs Bureau at the Japanese Foreign Ministry, the government said.

The promising directions of further bilateral relations were analyzed in the political, trade-economic, investment and cultural areas.

"The sides gained rich experience in the mutually beneficial exchange in all areas of cooperation, as well as among the state, public organizations and business circles of the two countries," the statement says.

The sides discussed the prospects for developing and strengthening the mutually beneficial partnership as part of the plan of the "Central Asia plus Japan" dialogue.

The sides support the participation of leading Japanese companies in the high-tech large-scale joint projects in Turkmenistan.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s official visit to Japan in September 2013 was an impetus for the development of relations. Following the visit, the contracts worth a few billion dollars were signed in Tokyo to build a number of large industrial enterprises in the oil, gas and chemical spheres.
