Georgia, Japan agree on new grant

The Japanese government will grant $852,000 to Georgia to buy necessary equipment and techniques for identifying the risks of natural disasters in the country.

Georgia's Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri and Japanese Ambassador Toshio Kaitani signed an agreement in Tbilisi to confirm the non-project grant by Japan.

The non-project grant will be used by Georgia's Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources based on its needs.

"In particular, the money will be spent to improve the automated equipment of monitoring stations used for precise assessment of atmospheric air quality in the country and acquire techniques for identification of the risks of natural and anthropogenic catastrophes,” the Georgian Finance Ministry said.

The recent grant is welcomed as an extra allocation by the Japanese government following its earlier $2 million grant for completing environmental projects in Georgia.
