Georgia, Turkmenistan pledge for deeper partnership

Georgia and Turkmenistan signed three documents to encourage a harder work on tightening the bilateral economic relations

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili's official visit to Turkmenistan focused on the talks with his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow over the prospects of deepening the cooperation in several fields.

After the face-to-face meeting, the presidents met in a broader format where they signed the bilateral agreements on the recognition of each other’s territorial integrity and respect to peaceful solution to conflicts.

The presidents inked a Mutual Understanding Memorandum in the field of transport. Georgia and Turkmenistan agreed to provide better conditions for freight and passenger traffic between the two countries.

Georgian Economy Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister for Tourism Sapardurdy Toyliyev signed an agreement to boost individual tourism cooperation between the two countries.

The third document between Georgia and Turkmenistan was signed by the presidents of the Georgian and Turkmen chambers of commerce and industry, guaranteeing deep trade relations of the two countries.

Speaking at the joint press conference following the meeting, Margvelashvili condemned the recent so called "Alliance and Strategic Partnership" treaty between Russia and Georgia’s breakaway Abkhazia region, saying it was a clear evidence of continuation of Russia's annexation policy.

Margvelashvili also invited his Turkmen counterpart Berdimuhamedow to visit Tbilisi. The latter accepted the invitation and promised a soon visit Georgia.

Georgia and Turkmenistan reflected their will to deepen mutual cooperation in the fields of transport, tourism and trade, as the signed documents paves the way for the two countries to advance their relations.
