Turkmenistan, Georgia to mull business ties
The next meeting of Turkmenistan-Georgia intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation is expected to be held in Tbilisi on Nov.26-28, Turkmen media reported.
The issues related to the preparations were discussed during a
meeting of Turkmen Cabinet of Ministers.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov drew the attention to the
development of interstate relations with Georgia and emphasized the
important role of the intergovernmental commission as an effective
mechanism of strengthening and expanding the bilateral fruitful
partnership.
Georgia's official representatives previously said that relations
in the fuel and energy fields, in particular, participation in the
Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania Interconnector (AGRI) and other major
international projects, can be one of the key areas of cooperation
with Turkmenistan.
Experts believe that the route to Europe via the Caspian Sea
appears to be the best option for Turkmenistan, which has the
fourth largest natural gas reserve in the world.
Once implemented, the Trans-Caspian pipeline infrastructure will
make it possible to connect Caspian Sea resources to transnational
projects through Azerbaijan.
In its energy strategy, Turkmenistan adheres to the principle of
diversification of energy export routes to world markets including
in the direction of Europe.
Official representatives of Georgia earlier stressed that their
country is the important part of the South Caucasus energy
transportation corridor and is ready to ensure a reliable and safe
energy transit through its territory from the Caspian Sea region
and Central Asia.
