Iran says no nuclear site in country's Marivan

Iran’s envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Reza Najafi, has denied the allegations about the existence of a nuclear site in Iran’s western region, Marivan.

Najafi said the allegations were based on “wrong and fabricated” information, IRNA news agency reported on November 21.

Marivan located more than 700 kilometers (434 miles) west of the Iranian capital, Tehran.

To prove this, he told the IAEA board, Iran would be ready to give the U.N. agency “one managed access” to the western region, where, according to the allegations, explosives experiments took place.

The country, which has provided the IAEA with such false information, has not announced the exact location of the site. Because, in fact, there is no such location at all, he explained.

“That country, which is either the U.S. or the Zionist regime, should specify the site’s exact location. Otherwise, it should confess that it has misled the IAEA with false information.”

During Ex-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's office, some information provided to the IAEA by the same member state indicates that the large-scale high explosive experiments were conducted by Iran in the region of Marivan.

The IAEA has provided Iran with this information. However, in a 117-page submission to the IAEA in May 2008, Iran stated that it did not understand the subject and had not conducted any activities of the type referred to in the document.
