Georgia completes national census

Georgia carried out a national census from November 5 to 19.

The census covered about 95 percent of Georgia's population, except the people in the breakaway territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, said Meri Daushvili, Director of the Georgian National Statistics Service, on November 20.

The preliminary census data consisting the results throughout the country will be published in April 2015, while the final results will be revealed in April 2016.

"All data will be submitted to the Georgian National Statistics Service in late November,” Daushvili said. “The questionnaires will be transported to Tbilisi. The data processing process will take about a year."

The recent census was conducted in Georgia in 2002. Georgia’s overall population is 4,371,000. As of January 17, 2002, nearly 84 percent of the total population are Georgians, 6 percent are Azerbaijanis, while 5.5% Armenians and 1.5 percent Russians. About 2 percent of the population were representatives of other minorities, except the zones of Abkhazian and South Ossetian conflicts.
