Last Georgian battalion leaves Kandahar

The last battalion of the Georgian Armed Forces left the military base in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

The mountain-intelligence battalion of the Georgian Armed Forces' Special Forces arrived in the country early in the morning on November 20.

High-ranking officials of Georgia's defense ministry and general staff welcomed the soldiers at the Alexeyevka Airport near the capital city Tbilisi.

They noted that the battalion has successfully fulfilled all tasks it was given during its presence in Afghanistan since this April and returned to Georgia without any loss.

Georgian troops have completely withdrawn from Kandahar.

The overall number of the Georgian soldiers was 1,500 in Afghanistan. Now, about 750 peacekeepers of the South Caucasus country left there and will reportedly join the training and preparation activities for Afghan army.
