Turkmenistan plays an important role in the global energy market by its ongoing large-scale works in research, development and processing of hydrocarbon resources and identification of new resources for exporting finished products to the world markets.

The remarks were made by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov at the Oil and Gas Exhibition and Conference, which is being held in capital Ashgabat on November 18-20.

He noted the construction of a complex for the production of polyethylene and polypropylene in the Kiyanly village and a complex for the production of gasoline from natural gas in the Akhal region are two shining examples of industry diversification.

“The ongoing work in this direction, given international experience, will contribute to the output of gas chemical industry - one of the leading sectors of the economy of our state- raising it to a new level, which, in turn, will give a fresh impetus to accelerate the large-scale works on the industrialization of the country,” Berdymukhamedov said.

It is expected that the participants of the Oil and Gas Exhibition and Conference will exchange views on the prospects of oil and gas field, innovative technologies of exploration and processing of hydrocarbon and ways of their realization on the world markets.

Turkmenistan is one of the key players in the energy market of the resource-rich Caspian region. The Central Asian state has the world's fourth largest natural gas reserves after Russia, Iran, and Qatar, and produces about 70-80 billion cubic meters of gas each year.

The largest deposits of the country are concentrated in the Mary region in the east of Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan intends to increase the production volume and export of natural gas, and diversify its routes of supply to major world markets as part of an energy strategy.

Under a program for oil and gas development, the country's annual natural gas production is planned to reach 250 billion cubic meters by 2030, mostly for export purposes.

Currently, domestic products are exported to more than 40 world countries, including Turkey, China, Russia, UAE, Iran, Germany, U.S., UK, Ukraine and Switzerland.
