Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan reconsider deal on road transport

Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan will reconsider an intergovernmental agreement on road transportation, the Kazakh Investment and Development Ministry reported on November 11.

"The authorities of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan signed a protocol on amending the international road transport agreement,” the statement reads. “The freight transportation to / from the third countries will be regulated in accordance with the signed document."

This is expected to increase the share of Kazakh carriers on the Kazakh-European transport market. At the same time, the bilateral and transit transport without permission will be preserved between the two countries.

A permit system on cargo transportation to and from the third countries is used in many countries worldwide, including the EU and the Customs Union.

In 2009, the Kyrgyz carriers made 1,078 trips from the third countries to Kazakhstan, 3,807 trips in 2012, and 3,961 trips s in 2013, according to the International Road Transport Union.
