The European Union supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, EU Commissioner Stefan Fule said during a meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze on October 20.

"We agreed on the importance of expanding political consultations. We also decided to further support Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Meanwhile, we agreed to reject any kind of initiatives that contradicts not only the territorial integrity of Georgia, but also the legitimate aspirations of the people living there," Fule said.

Panjikidze met with the foreign minister from 28 member-states of the European Union in Luxembourg on October 20. The main topic of discussions was Russia's plan to create a joint armed forces with Abkhazia.

The draft agreement between Russia and Abkhazia developed by the Russian side was sent to the so-called parliament of Abkhazia on October 13. Under the draft agreement "the main areas of cooperation, integration and partnership are: introduction of a coordinated foreign policy, formation of a common defense and security area, creation of a unified social and economic space, and preservation of the common cultural and humanitarian space."

Panjikidze informed the European ministers about the dangers of Moscow's initiative.

"Georgia, as well as the European Union is against the use of force. Because, Georgia has taken an obligation not to use force, moreover because force can't resolve the problem," Panjikidze said.

She added that risks of the Russia's intentions to form a unified military force with Abkhazia will harm the regular dialogues between Georgian and Russian representatives Abashidze and Karasin.
