Uzbekistan, Georgia keen on deepening trade-economic relations
Uzbekistan and Georgia are interested in the development of trade-economic relations, the participants of another session of the Uzbek-Georgian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation said in Tashkent.
A Georgian delegation at the meeting was headed by Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mikheil Janelidze, and the Uzbek delegation by Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade Ibrahim Ergashev.
The Georgian side Uzbekistan is considered as an important and traditional economic partner of the country. Georgia's government and business circles are interested in further development of mutually beneficial trade relations.
The sides also discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral trade-economic cooperation. In particular, the expansion of ties in investment, transport, tourism, culture and sports, in the development and implementation of perspective joint projects were considered.
The Georgian delegation reviewed the ongoing economic reforms, the privatization process, the favorable opportunities created for investors in "Navoi", "Angren" and "Jizzak" industrial zones in Uzbekistan.
Georgia is ready to deliver its transport communications and infrastructure of the port of Poti for Uzbek goods by providing tariff preferences. Uzbekistan is ready to increase the volume of cargo transportation through the territory of Georgia by several times.
The trade turnover between the two countries as of 2013 increased by 25 percent - to $35.8 million. The trade turnover amounted to $ 60 million in January-June 2014, the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade says.
There are nine companies with the Georgian capital in Uzbekistan. The main areas of their activity are trade, real estate, marketing services, logistics, building materials. Three representative offices of Georgian companies were accredited.
The two countries signed more than 80 intergovernmental and inter-ministerial documents, covering almost all areas of the Uzbek-Georgian cooperation and allow developing relations at all levels of cooperation.
