Tajik Prosecutor General's Office has accused the Group 24 in an attempt to topple the government.

The group was created outside the country by one of Tajik opposition figure.

This was noted in a statement by the supervisory authority, released by local media.

"The Prosecutor General's Office has carefully examined the material relating to the activities of the Group 24, which, as it has turned out, was created by Tajik citizen Umarali Kuvvatov, suspected of committing serious criminal offenses, in particular, fraud and embezzlement, wanted on an international arrest warrant" the statement said.

The statement also said the main purpose of the organization is the seizure of state power in Tajikistan by unconstitutional means.

"Kuvvatov and other representatives of the organization call on the people to take part in the riots, to overthrow the government in Tajikistan by force in their extremist statements, that is, to commit serious crimes against the foundations of the constitution," the document said. "In this regard, the General Prosecutor's Office appeals to the Supreme Court of Tajikistan to declare the Group 24 an extremist organization and ban its activities in the country."

The Group 24 was created after a special operation in Gorno-Badakhshan in August 2012. The founders of Group 24 are 24 people, each of them with their own extensive team.

Leaders of the Group 24 earlier made a public call to urge their compatriots to gather in the central square of Dushanbe on October 10 to take part in the rally under the slogan for the resignation of incumbent President Emomali Rahmon.

After the release of the statement, the government banned public access to popular social networking website Facebook.
