Tehran refuses Washington’s proposal to cooperate in fight against "Islamic State"

Iran rejected the U.S. request for cooperation in the fight against "Islamic State" group militants, France-Presse reported referring to Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

"From the very beginning, the U.S. through its ambassador in Iraq asked us to cooperate in the fight against the Islamic State," Khamenei said. "I refused because they are stained. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry also addressed Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and he refused."

"Islamic State" terrorist group having relations with "Al Qaeda" intensified during the hostilities in Syria. This terrorist group was fighting against the government forces and became notorious as one of the most violent. Several months ago, the group sharply intensified its activity in Iraq.

Taking advantage of the Iraqi Sunni's discontent over Baghdad's politics, "Islamic State" terrorist group launched a massive attack on the northern and northwestern provinces of Iraq and occupied a vast territory. It announced the creation of the so-called 'Islamic caliphate' there.
