Georgia gets opportunity to fulfill its historic function

Georgia obtained an opportunity again to fulfill its historical function in the 21st century.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili made the remark at the final meeting of the "Silk Road" project in Batumi.

"Georgia has always been an integral part of the Great Silk Road," he added.

"Your large-scale expedition has a very noble goal," Garibashvili further said. "It is to visit the Silk Road countries, to familiarize with their culture and history, economic, investment and tourism potential. Today I once again have the opportunity to stress the historic role of Georgia and the role that has been assigned to Georgia since ancient times, as a country was located at the crossroads of East and West. There were two worlds, two civilizations side by side. Georgia has been a crossroad of these two worlds and an integral part of the Silk Road over the centuries. Today, we are pleased that in the 21st century Georgia once again has the opportunity to fulfill its historic function."

About 60 representatives of Chinese media outlets arrived in Tbilisi traveling from China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Russia as part of the "Great Silk Road". They left for Turkey after on August 23.
