Uzbekistan to triple light industry output by 2020

Uzbekistan plans to triple the light industry output by 2020,
the state-run Uzbeklegprom Joint Stock Company said.
In particular, the production of cotton yarn is planned to be
increased by 2.5 times, the apparels by 3.2 times, knitted goods by
2.1 times, and raw silk production by 2 1 times.
Fabric production is planned to be increased by 5.4 times,
including cotton fabrics by 2.8 times, silk fabrics by 2.7 times,
non-woven fabric by 1.5 times, and knitted fabric by 2.7 times.
The light industry's share in Uzbekistan's GDP in the first half of
2014 amounted to 2.7 percent.
The domestic processing of cotton fiber was increased from 7
percent in 1991 to 44 percent in 2014.
In the last two years, Uzbekistan commissioned 35 industrial
enterprises worth $330.4 million. Their export potential hits
$215.8 million.
The largest of these enterprises is the Daewoo Bukharateks worth
$52.3 million. Its capacity makes it possible to produce 16,000
tons of cotton yarn annually.
Other largest enterprises are the Indorama Kokand Textile
costing $55 million, and having a production capacity of 15,000
tons of yarn per year, and Rieter Uzbekistan which produces tape,
carding, and ring spinning machines.
On the eve of Uzbekistan's 23rd anniversary of independence it is
expected to commission 22 new industrial enterprises, with a total
worth of $73 million and having an export potential of $73
million.
The exports are projected to stand at $1 billion by late 2014.
The production of cotton yarn in Uzbekistan grew by 17.4 percent
and cotton fabrics by 37.7 percent in 2013.
