Uzbekistan, Turkey mull road transport shipping deal

Uzbekistan and Turkey agreed on the final version of the draft of intergovernmental agreement on international road passenger and freight transportation, a source in Uzbek government circles told Trend.

Following the discussions held at the meeting of the Uzbek-Turkish commission for international road transport, the parties initialed a draft agreement and agreed to carry out the necessary procedures for its signature on the governmental level.

The meeting of Commission was attended by Director General of the General Department of Road Transport Regulation of the Ministry of Transport, Shipping and Communications of Turkey Ali Riza Yuzheulu and Deputy Head of the Uzbek Agency for Automobile and River Transport Shaalim Shavahabov.

During the negotiations it was stressed that the cooperation between Turkey and Uzbekistan in the field of international road transport was developing positively.

The parties stressed the importance of regular meetings of the commission in promotion of cooperation between the two countries in the field of international road transport and in discussion of the use of permission forms for their implementation.

Turkey is among the five largest foreign trade partners of Uzbekistan. In 2013 turnover between Turkey and Uzbekistan reached $1.347 billion, which is a 10.5 percent increase over the same period of 2012.

At present, Uzbekistan has 485 companies with Turkish investments that operate in the textile, food and pharmaceutical industries in the areas of hotel business, services, production of building materials, construction and production of plastic products.
