Poverty level hits 37 pct in Kyrgyzstan
The poverty level decreased to 37 percent in Kyrgyzstan, the
Kyrgyz Social Development Ministry reported.
The most positive changes in the welfare of the population were
Talas, Jalal-Abad, Osh and Bishkek regions of the country.
The poverty line in Kyrgyzstan is 2,314 soms ($1 =51.81 som) per
capita and extreme poverty line is 1,354 soms. Kyrgyz government
systematically works on poverty reduction, including through the
provision of temporary social support to poor families.
Particularly, within the implementation of the Strategy for Social
Protection Development in 2012-2014 the ministry initiated the
increase of the guaranteed minimum income by 10 percent until the
end of 2014.
The income of about 115,000 families does not exceeding 640 soms
per family member in Kyrgyzstan. More than 336,000 children live in
these families.
Over one billion soms were allocated to needy children since the
beginning of 2014.
Moreover, over one billion soms have been paid as monthly social
benefits.
