Tbilisi seeks to continue constructive dialogue with Moscow

Georgia should continue the constructive dialogue with Russia.

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili made the remark in the interview with local Imedi TV channel.

"The current situation in Ukraine is very difficult. Regarding Georgia's internal issues, we should focus on our own interests," he said.

He noted that Georgia has opportunities for achieving more constructive relations with Russia.

"I understand that the situation in Ukraine is very hard," he added. "We are unanimous on this issue. But regarding our issues, we must focus on our own interests."

Garibashvili added that a successful and positive meeting has been recently held between Georgian Prime Minister's Special Representative Zurab Abashidze and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin.

Georgia and Russia, its giant northern neighbor, have maintained no diplomatic relations since a brief war in 2008. Tbilisi broke off relations with Moscow in August 2008 when Moscow crushed a Georgian assault to reassert control over two rebel regions -South Ossetia and Abkhazia- and later recognized the regions. Georgia announced the two unrecognized republics as occupied territories in September 2008.
