Georgia, Germany to co-op in combating crime, terrorism

Georgia and Germany signed an agreement on cooperation to combat organized crime, terrorism and other serious criminal offences.

Georgian Interior Minister Alexander Chikaidze and his German colleague Thomas de Maiziere signed the document, the Georgian ministry reported.

The agreement provides the cooperation in fight against crimes, such as: crimes against life, body and health, terrorism, drug-related crimes, illicit trafficking in firearms, trafficking in human beings and illegal migration, crimes against property, corruption, cybercrime, forgery, financial crimes and etc.

The document envisages operative cooperation, as well as non-operative cooperation, namely, exchange of crime-related information, including criminal intelligence information, conduction of joint criminal intelligence measures, deployment of liaison officers if necessary, sending experts for advanced training and experience sharing, exchanging results of criminological and forensic research.

After signing ceremony, Tchikaidze talked about the importance of sharing German experience for the Georgian law enforcers.

"This is very important for our country in terms of making steps towards Europe. Germany is one of the leading countries that can teach us a lot in practice and experience," he said.
