Sweden is ready to render assistance to Georgia for the implementation of its Association Agreement with the EU and pursue efforts towards economic integration.

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt made the remarks at a meeting with his Georgian counterpart Maia Panjikidze in Tbilisi on June 30.

Bildt's visit, which came several days after the signing of Georgia's Association Agreement with the European Union, was another sign of Sweden's support for Georgia's European aspirations, the Georgian ministry reported.

Panjikidze expressed hope that Sweden will continue to support Georgia and provide the country with expert assistance during the process of implementing the Agreement.

The sides also discussed a wide range of bilateral and multilateral co-operation issues, focusing on the prospects of economic co-operation, as well as the role of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency in the process of Georgia's institutional and economic development.

Talking points also included current developments in Georgia's occupied territories and the region as a whole.

The two ministers highlighted the need to strengthen stability and security in Georgia and the peaceful resolution of the conflicts in the region.

During his visit to Tbilisi, Bildt also met President Giorgi Margvelashvili and Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili.
