Rouhani: Iran-Slovenia ties bring Middle East, Balkans closer
President Hassan Rouhani said expansion of all-out relations between the Islamic Republic and Slovenia will further draw the Middle East and the Balkans together, передает IRNA.
"The incumbent Iranian administration seeks to broaden ties with countries that Iran shares common interests," President Rouhani said in a meeting with visiting President of Slovenia's National Assembly Yanko Weber in Tehran on Monday evening.
He described parliamentary ties as one of the means in bringing nations and governments closer together, and said, "Relations between Tehran and Ljubljana can further improve in light of proper parliamentary initiatives."
President Rouhani also stated that the current situation in the world necessitates greater cooperation among all countries, adding that insecurity along with spread of violence and terrorism are endangering the Middle East and the entire world.
The Iranian president called upon all world states to join hands and stem the spread of violence and terrorism through closer cooperation with each other.
President Rouhani warned against the high number of European nationals operating as terrorists in the Middle East, Syria in particular, stressing that these terrorists will pose a serious threat of terror attacks when they return home.
Rouhani termed terrorism as a microbe that can spread from one area to another if not treated properly, adding that his proposal of "World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE)", which was unanimously endorsed as a UN resolution, is indicative of global consensus and concern over violence and terrorism.ˈ
On December 18, 2013, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly voted to approve Rouhani's WAVE proposal, which calls on all nations across the globe to denounce violence and extremism.
Weber, for his part, underlined the need for the establishment of global peace and campaign against terrorism, and said, "Success in the fight against terrorism depends upon increased cooperation among world countries."
The senior Slovenian official stated that Slovenia establishes and promotes its relations with world countries independently, adding that the Islamic Republic of Iran is located in an important region and Ljubljana attaches paramount significance to its relations with Tehran.
He also expressed hope that negotiations between Iran and six world powers aimed at a final comprehensive settlement to the decade-old dispute over Tehranˈs nuclear energy program would proceed as planned.
