Turkmenistan, France to mull economic co-op

Turkmenistan and France will discuss the development of economic cooperation between the two countries in Paris on July 11.

The discussions will be held at the intergovernmental level as part of Turkmen Economy Day, a source close to the negotiations told Trend Agency on April 22.

The event will be organized by Turkmen Chamber of Commerce.

In 2012, Turkmenistan and France marked the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

French companies in Turkmenistan are represented in the construction, transport, tourism and energy sectors.

French Total may be involved in the development of hydrocarbon resources in the Turkmen part of the Caspian Sea and exploration of gas transportation to Europe in the near future.

'Gas de France' stressed its interest in cooperation in this area as well.

Thales Alenia Space is implementing a project constructing the Turkmen first national satellite, scheduled for launch in 2014.

Bouygues and VINCI Construction are implementing large construction projects in the Turkmen market.

The two countries are also interested in implementing a project on Turkmen gas transportation to Europe. Especially, the variants of laying the gas pipeline across the Caspian Sea and Azerbaijan, as well as its joining the transnational projects in the European direction.
