Employees of two Iranian plants hold rally

Over 400 employees of the Iran Tire plant located near the Iranian city of Karaj and over 150 employees of Fajr petrochemical plant in Khuzestan province are continuing their protests, which started on January 21, ILNA news agency reported.

Iran Tire plant's employees are holding strikes as a sign of protest against dismissal of 80 of their co-workers.

They have held talks with the plant's management and said they agree to give 10 percent of their salaries to their co-workers or to receive salaries with three or four months of postponement in return for bringing back their colleagues.

The plant's management did not agree with this proposal and stated that the number of employees naturally should be reduced with the installation of modern technologies at the plant.

The protesters said some of the 80 employees dismissed on Jan. 21 have worked for the plant for 15 years.

Over 150 employees of the Fajr petrochemical plant in Khuzestan province have also been protesting for two days.

They are protesting against the plant's decision not to allow workers' union representative Abbas Rezai into the plant's area.

Rezai intended to inspect the conditions at the plant and get acquainted with the problems of the employees, but the plant's management did not allow this.
