Turkmenistan to boost control over major gas projects

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov ordered to strengthen control over the implementation of the projects aimed at increasing the volume of natural gas production, its processing and export, the Turkmen government reported.

Speaking at the meeting of the country's Cabinet of Ministers, the president stressed that the priority should be given to the facilities that are planned to be constructed within the second stage of development of Galkynysh giant gas field.

Berdimuhamedov gave a number of orders on further strengthening of the logistics, modernization and technical re-equipment of enterprises of fuel and energy complex (FEC).

Last year, Turkmenistan's share in global natural gas production was 1.8 percent.

The main consumers of Turkmen gas are China, Iran and Russia.

Turkmenistan ranks fourth on natural gas reserves after Russia, Iran and Qatar.

The largest fields are located in the east of the country at Mary province -- at Southern Yoloten - Osman (they were merged and were renamed as Galkynysh) and Yashlar with total resources valued by local geologists and British Gaffney, Cline & Associates (GCA) at 26.2 trillion cubic meters.
