Tbilisi City Council’s deputy speaker released

The Financial Police of Georgia's Ministry of Finance has released the Vice-Speaker of Tbilisi Sakrebulo (representative body in the city government) and two members of the local self-governing body of the Georgian capital detained earlier on June 27.

According to the press service of Tbilisi City Hall, Vice-Speaker Mamuka Akhvlediani and MPs from the United National Movement Party, Mamuka Gugeshashvili and David Avaliani have been questioned by financial police as witnesses in the case of embezzlement of budgetary funds.

Meanwhile, Akhvlediani said he was not summoned to be questioned as a witness, but disembarked from the car and taken by force to the financial police.

To date, there are up to 30 employees of the City Hall and Tbilisi Sakrebulo, being questioned by the financial police in connection with the embezzlement of budgetary funds.
