IAEA says can't guarantee Iran’s peaceful use of nuclear materials (UPDATE)

By Arslan Abbasov

Iran is violating the resolutions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the UN Security Council, by increasing the number of centrifuges and volume of enriched uranium, the IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said.

"The number of centrifuges installed by Iran continues to increase, as well as the enriched uranium volumes. This activity is in conflict with the resolutions adopted by the Board of Governors of the IAEA and the UN Security Council," said in his speech during the opening session of the IAEA Board of Governors, RIA Novosti news agency reported.

Amano said the IAEA cannot guarantee that Iran will use its existing nuclear material for peaceful purposes.

"Iran does not provide enough level of cooperation for us to have the opportunity to guarantee the absence of non-declared nuclear materials and activity. Therefore, the agency cannot conclude that all nuclear materials in Iran are being used for peaceful purposes," the IAEA head said.

Meanwhile, Russia says it necessary to conduct a new round of negotiations of 'The Six' and Iran in the near future. Almaty may become the meeting place, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said in an interview to RIA Novosti.

"We have always said and I confirm once again that the venue is secondary for Russia. We should stop at what would be acceptable for all the parties. If we were able to spend two fairly good, rich and efficient rounds in Almaty, why not continue there, especially considering that we know and this was declared officially, that our Kazakh partners offer such an option," he said.

"As for the terms, the sooner the better," the senior diplomat said.
