Scientists of future awarded in Turkey

MEF Educational Institutions announced the winning projects of the 22nd International Research Projects Contest held in Turkey on May 10.

One of the top international, scientific high school competitions in the world, MEF Educational Institutions' 22nd International Research Projects Contest was held in Istanbul on May 7-10.

The students of the TEV İnanc Turkes High School were awarded in the areas of physics and biology while Ankara Science High School students were awarded in the area of chemistry. Projects from Thailand, Slovenia and Italy received jury's special awards as well.

The event aimed to attract any skillful student in science to become "Scientists of the Future."

MEF Educational Institutions Founder and Chairman of the Board, İbrahim Arıkan presented awards to winners for the projects in the areas of physics, chemistry and biology. The award ceremony was attended by Turkish Parliamentary Speaker Cemil Cicek as well.

This year 1,500 students with 806 projects from all over the world applied to MEF Educational Institutions' competition. 64 projects developed by Turkey and 26 international projects competed in the contest.

The project developed by the students of the Azerbaijani school No. 7 named after M. Rahimov has been selected from hundreds of scientific projects in the world to attend and represent Azerbaijan in the contest.

The project topics in the contest included sustainable energy saving systems, waste-water cleaning technologies and window-cleaning robots. The projects span a wide variety of fields; including nature, technology, health care and cosmetics.

This year the number of international applications increased five times more than the previous years' applications. Young inventors, participating to the competition from 25 countries including Albania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Dubai, Hungary, Italy, Kosovo, Lithuania, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Thailand, Turkmenistan and Ukraine, had an opportunity to present their projects at the exhibition and traveled around Istanbul at the unifying atmosphere of science.
