Iran unveils new achievements in renewable energy sector
Iran unveiled five achievements in the renewable energy sector on May 19, IRIB reported.
The first raw materials production line for wind turbines, the first 10KW fuel cell which generates both electricity and heat, the first crane which is used in repairing wind turbines, the first 2MW wind turbine, and the first 100W fuel cell which consumes melted carbonate, were unveiled in a ceremony which attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
In May 2012, President Ahmadinejad approved allocating €500 million to develop renewable energy projects.
Iran has constructed power plants twice as many as the average number of power plants which have been constructed in the world during the last decade, Mehr news agency quoted deputy energy minister Mohammad Behzad as saying.
The power generation capacity in Iran has grown by 7 percent annually during the last 10 years, he said, adding that the figure has averaged 3.5 percent in the world.
The country's power generation capacity is currently 68.38 gigawatts, he added.
Iran currently trades power with Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan (including Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic), Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq.
Iran seeks to become a major regional exporter of electricity and has attracted more than $1.1 billion investments for the construction of three new power plants.
