US seeks to further develop ties with Georgia

The U.S. is interested in cooperation with Georgia and intends to develop this cooperation under the U.S.-Georgia Charter on Strategic Partnership, Georgian Ambassador to Washington Archil Gegeshidze said after presentation of his credentials to U.S. President Barack Obama on Tuesday.

"The U.S. president assured me that he personally and his government will make maximum efforts to strengthen cooperation with Georgia, and that these relationships are important for the U.S," Gegeshidze said.

Speaking about the Georgian Prime Minister's visit to the US, the Georgian Ambassador noted that the exact date of the visit is still unknown.

"This visit is important and we are preparing for it, but the exact dates are not defined," the diplomat said.

Earlier, Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze said that Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili will visit the U.S. during the current, or early next year.
