Coal gas technology applied in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan's National Company KazMunaiGas - KMG, in cooperation with its western partners has started introducing technology on the production of gas from coal, Chairman of the KMG Board of Directors Lyazzat Kiinov said at a meeting with representatives of national companies and ministries last week.
"The technology on liquation of coal and extracting gas from it already exists," Kiinov said. "A lot of coal deposits are located near our companies. We have already started working with western companies for the introduction of these technologies at one coal field and hope to get good results."
According to Kiinov, it is important to consider the fact that Kazakhstan has the world's cheapest coal which can also be used for gas production.
According to him, under such conditions it is cheaper for Kazakhstan to produce gas from coal than from shale.
