Russia plans to sign agreement with Armenia on military coop

Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed with the government's
proposal to hold talks with Armenia to sign an agreement for
developing military cooperation, RIA Novosti news agency
reported.
Putin instructed the government to sign an agreement with
Armenia upon the completion of the talks.
According to PanArmenian.net, the Russian 102nd military base is
deployed in the territory of Armenia in compliance with the
agreement signed in March 1995. The task of the base is to ensure
strategic stability of the external border, protection of Russia's
interests and Armenia's security, including through joint use of
Russian and Armenian forces in accordance with the provisions of
the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) dated May 15,
1992. The divisions of the base are deployed in Gyumri and Yerevan.
The total number of military men is about 3,500. The base includes
three motorized infantry regiments, an artillery regiment and a
tank battalion.
In June 2011, Russia's Federation Council, the upper house of parliament, ratified a protocol extending the agreement signed on March 16, 1995 on deployment of the Russian military base in Armenia from 25 to 49 years.
Meanwhile, a program on Armenia's military cooperation with Greece in 2013 was signed in Yerevan, Mediamax.am reported on Tuesday.
A delegation headed by Brigadier General Evangelos Konstas, a senior Greek military official, paid a working visit to Armenia on Monday.
The delegation met with Deputy Minister of Defense of Armenia
David Tonoyan and head of a Defense Ministry department, Levon
Ayvazyan. Bilateral cooperation in 2012 was summed up and
cooperation in 2013 was agreed upon.
Ayvazyan and Konstas signed a bilateral program on military
cooperation for 2013.
