Eight Turkish soldiers killed in suspected Kurdish attack

ANKARA – Eight Turkish soldiers were killed in a suspected bomb explosion in Turkey's southeastern Hakkari province on Wednesday, Reuters reported.

The sources said Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants were believed to be behind the blast.

The attack came days after Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan hinted at tougher military action against rebels after the end of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan, saying the country was at the end of its tether.

More than 30 Turkish soldiers have died in intensified attacks since July. The clashes have also left about 10 rebels dead.

The rebels are fighting for autonomy in southeast Turkey. The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people since 1984.
