Turkey to chair UN Security Council in September

ANKARA – Turkey is to take over the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council for the month of September, its ambassador to the UN Ertugrul Apakan on Wednesday told the Anatolia news agency, DPA reported.

Turkey, a non-permanent member of the Security Council, will preside over at least two keynote meetings - on fresh sanctions against Iran, and on the work of the UN peacekeeping mission in Sudan.

Ankara has voted previously against tougher sanctions on the regime in Tehran, in the dispute over its nuclear programme.
