The Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN Geneva Office organized a special meeting entitled "Intermodal Communication and Role of Historic Transport Routes: Great Silk Road", the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a message Feb. 21.

This event was held in Geneva during the 80th session of the Inland Transport Committee (ITC) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

The views on the main aspects reflected in the UN General Assembly resolution "Strengthening of the relations among all modes of transport to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals" were exchanged.

Turkmenistan has repeatedly reaffirmed the need for systematic global cooperation and strategic planning in the transport sector.

Among the keynote speakers were the permanent representatives of the UNECE member-states, in particular Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan.

The issues of ensuring energy security, the development of gas infrastructure in Europe and in general, on the Eurasian continent, are often touched upon at the UNECE sessions.
